Hydrangea Heights

Flanked by a fragrant star jasmine-covered fence to the south and the feathery plumes of ‘Karl Foerster’ grass to the north, enter a garden brimming with texture and color.

Beyond the gate, notice a stunning mass of Vanilla Strawberry hydrangeas, with showy cone-shaped blooms that transform from white to pink over the summer months. Two coral bark Japanese maples, grass-like liriope, also known as lilyturf, and three easy- care Knock Out roses surround the fountain on the flagstone path. The fountain is adorned with free-floating water hyacinths in the summer.

Lining the driveway, look for ‘Firefly’ heather known for its flaming torches of red-orange spiking foliage in winter, which turns a lovely light bright green in spring.

A sitting area invites rest at the front of the house, surrounded by hydrangeas, Mexican feather grass, Japanese forest grass, and salvia. The line of rounded boxwoods ends at the porch with boxwood topiaries against the front of the house.

The path to the backyard is lined on both sides by hydrangeas and Japanese forest grass. Growing next to the house, discover the Incrediball hydrangea, a sturdier version of the ‘Annabelle’ hydrangea, with large moplike blooms that turn a bright lime green in late summer.

The private back garden offers a breathtaking view of the Sound above the tops of the madrone trees. A grapevine-covered pergola defines the south perimeter and fragrant David Austin roses grace the northern perimeter.
